Chicago Midwest Brace For Winter Storm, Flights Canceled To Ensure Safety

Feb 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The National Weather Service has issued a warning that the biggest blizzard in a decade might hit the city of Chicago and its nearby states at any moment. The citizens are now bracing up for the devastating natural calamity and the Governor of Illinois Pat Quinn has issued disaster declaration for the entire state. The Governor has also activated State Emergency Operations Center to help the citizens during the blizzard. On the other hand, state transport authority and airlines department has received a major setback in the whole matter as most of the flights are canceled and railway routes are also shut down for the emergency purpose.
The strong storm has threatened to disrupt thousands of flights and land the travelers in trouble. The blizzard is expected to effect 30 states in 48 hours. The National Weather Service has issued a statement where it is stated that blowing and falling of snow along with strong winds and poor visibilities are expected. The statement also stated that the blizzard would make the travel “extremely dangerous” and hence the travelers are asked to stay indoors during the storm. Delta Air Lines has already canceled 550 airlines scheduled for Wednesday owing to such warning and “periods of near-blizzard conditions”.
Other than that, Midway Airport and O’Hare International Airport has also canceled many flights for the safety of the passengers. The security officials of Oklahoma has added 120 garbage trucks along with snow plows and 274 trucks for the cleaning purposes. Guy Tridgell, the spokesman of Illinois Department of Transportation said that the department is completely ready to face the natural calamity and deal with it.
