Centenarian couple observes Karva Chauth in Shimla
October 7th, 2009 - 9:26 pm ICT by ANIShimla, Oct. 7 (ANI): Hans Devi,103 , is observing Karva Chauth for the long life of her 105-year-old husband Pyara Singh in Shimla.
“I believe that couple should spend their life amicably like it used to happen during yesteryears. You should respect your partner. If one commits a mistake the other should forgive,” said Pyara Singh.
Family members and neighbours of the centenarian couple greeted them on the occasion.
Their family took blessings of the couple by touching their feet and said that there is a lot to learn from them.
“We feel happy when we read in newspapers that Barol is getting so much name because of the couple. We take the blessings of the elderly couple. People should learn something from them,” said Urmila Singh, daughter-in-law of Pyara Singh and Hans Devi.
It is believed that if a woman fasts on Karva Chauth day, her prayers for the good health and long life of her spouse would be fulfilled.
Married women celebrate it by observing a fast and praying for the longevity of life of their husbands.
The fast, observed from sunrise is broken only after moonrise. The day is spent in the company of family members.(ANI)
