Cecilia Chang Accused Of Forcing Scholarship Students To Work For Her

changOct 2, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Cecilia Chang, the former dean of the Institute of Asian Studies of St. John’s University and vice president for international relations has landed herself among another controversy after she was accused of stealing $1 million from St. John’s University and using the money for her personal purpose. Few days ago some university student complained that Cecilia Chang made them do household works like making meals, withdrawing cash from their account to pay her, answer her personal emails as she threatened them of suspension from their school if they do not abide by her.

Cecilia Chang was arrested in the middle of last month on charges of grand larceny, forgery and falsifying business records and the recent complains have made the matter worse for her. The judge jailed the former Dean last Thursday on forced labor charges as she threatened the students that she would withdraw their scholarships if they do not fulfill her demands. St. John’s University officials released a statement where it was stated that the latest accusations against Cecilia Chang are shocking and it completely violates the university rules and principals.

Cecilia Chang was one of the top fundraisers of the University and she traveled across the world to generate fund for the University. The University released a statement where it was stated that the students will continue to receive funds from the school. FBI agent Kenneth Hosey said that Cecilia Chang had the authority to grant up to 15 scholarships each year to the students and they were asked by her to perform duties for a period of ‘twenty hours” a week. Cecilia Chang will have to face 20 years in prison if she is convicted of the charges.
