Casey Anthony trial costs more than $140,000
July 22nd, 2011 - 8:28 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattFlorida, July 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The state of Florida has been handed $147,000 as the bill for the defense team which successfully saved Casey Anthony from being executed. That seems like a double slap to the taxpayers of Florida most of whom were not happy with the acquittal of Casey.
The defense team of Casey was led by Jose Baez. The team forwarded their bill to the Justice Administrative Commission of the state. About $118,847.75 of the total amount of $147,018.60 has been paid to the defense team. The state is however arguing the payment of about $12,000 of the remaining amount.
The contentious amount regards how the money was used. In particular, the state is contending the services of independent contractors, cost of deposition transcripts and the travel cost for some of the trips of the defense team.
The outcome of Casey Anthony’s case has caused outrage in the United States and beyond. Casey was cleared of killing her two-year-old daughter Caylee for lack of evidence. The decision of the jury has got some Americans proposing law that will make it a federal offense not to report a missing child within 48 hours.
The proposed law is called Caylee’s Law and it has already got several supporters.
