Carla Bruni accused of ‘nepotism’ after friend got French govt job
December 28th, 2009 - 2:27 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )London, Dec 28 (ANI): French First Lady Carla Bruni has landed into a ‘nepotism’ controversy after her son’s godfather was given a 4,500 pounds a month government job. Francois Baudot was appointed as the new Inspector General of Cultural Affairs and the news comes in line with a recent poll, which found that half of all French people believe Bruni is meddling in the France’s politics.
Baudot, 60, is a former interior designer friend of Bruni’s for 15 years and will now work alongside the First Lady’s other close friend, culture minister Frederic Mitterrand, reports the Telegraph.
French news magazine Le Point has reported that they received information that a government appointment’s commission had first decided Baudot was not suitable for the new job.
However, later, the commission changed its mind after the members were informed that President Nicolas Sarkozy, his Prime Minister Francois Fillon and Frederic Mitterrand all backed Baudot for the new post, according to Le Point.
But the magazine also admitted that Baudot - a former government commissioner for France’s museums and monuments - had a ‘pretty good CV for the new job’.
Last month a Reader’s Digest poll found 48 per cent of people thought the former supermodel was ‘very influential’ in her husband’s policy-making. (ANI)
