Capello in dark about appointment of new England football coach
January 16th, 2011 - 1:05 pm ICT by ANILondon, Jan.16 (ANI): Italian Fabio Capello has been left in the dark over the appointment of a new English coach to the national team set-up.
Football Association general secretary Alex Horne revealed he had a “preferred candidate” for the role and expected to have them in place in February. The Telegraph quoted a source close to Capello, as saying that the Italian management team “know nothing” about any appointment and that they have not been consulted about any candidates.”
Following England’s World Cup failure in South Africa, Capello agreed in principle to bring in a young English coach to his team, someone who could provide continuity when Capello leaves the job after Euro 2012.
Sir Trevor Brooking, the FA’s director of football development said they wanted the coach to “take the knowledge of Fabio”. That appointment was supposed to happen in the autumn but seems to have been delayed until February, with Horne saying he needed time “speccing-out the role”.
It is understood that role has now changed, and will involve work with the development squads only.
Capello and his coaching team were surprised by Horne’s announcement and it has only added to the England manager’s sense of isolation from his employers. (ANI)
