Call for sperm donation answered by Tasmanian men

Melbourne, Dec 28 (ANI): A report in the local Tasmanian paper about the sperm bank almost running dry has aroused a number of the state’s men to become donors.

According to the Sunday Tasmanian, because of fewer men donating and there being more demand from interstate women, the bank is fast depleting its supply.

The sperm bank is down to its last four donors and, for the first time in the program’s 35-year history, waiting lists will be introduced next month.

Tas IVF director Bill Watkins said the story helped in generating interest and there has been a rush of men calling to find out more about becoming a sperm donor.

“We’ve had a huge response to the story,” the Courier Mail quoted Dr Watkins as saying.

“About 30 calls and so far seven have booked follow-up appointments.

“They may not all show, but we’ll probably see a few more follow up later,” he added.

Tas IVF inseminated about 50 women with donor sperm this year, resulting in 18 pregnancies. (ANI)
