“I swallowed a computer thumb drive,” The New York Daily News quoted defendant Florin Necula as admitting in Brooklyn Federal Court.
“I’m sorry, what did you do with the drive?” Magistrate Viktor Pohorelsky asked.
“I swallowed it,” Necula replied matter-of-factly.
Necula was charged with electronically stealing credit and debit card numbers from ATM machines and obstruction of justice for swallowing the evidence.
He has pleaded guilty to the charge and faces up to four years in prison and deportation to Romania after he completes his sentence.
Necula told the judge he thought the computer drive contained incriminating information.
The feds obtained a search warrant to have a surgeon remove the data storage device, which was lodged in his intestinal tract. (ANI)
