Briton killed, wife kidnapped in Kenya
September 11th, 2011 - 10:43 pm ICT by IANSNairobi, Sep 11 (IANS) Suspected Somali militiamen shot dead a British tourist and kidnapped his wife Saturday night in a beach resort in Kenya, authorities said Sunday.
The incident took place in the coastal town of Lamu, Xinhua reported.
Authorities said the gang is believed to be from Somalia’s militant group Al Shabaab.
The gang raided the Kiiwayu Safari village in Lamu at night and shot the Briton in the head, killing him instantly.
Police said the couple had arrived at the hotel Saturday evening.
Lamu district commissioner Steve Ikua confirmed the murder and the kidnapping.
He said the killers were from neighboring Somalia who crossed over to Kenya through the Indian Ocean route. The current location of the gang was not yet known.
He said security forces were working to rescue the woman British tourist.
