British musician gets one mn fans on YouTube
September 12th, 2011 - 7:31 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Sep 12 (IANS) A 20-year-old Briton has become the first musician in the country to get a million fans on YouTube.
Charlie McDonnell, who plays the guitar-like ukulele, makes his videos in his own room, The Sun reported.
One of the videos on his channel “charlieissocoollike” provides a musical step-by-step guide to make a cup of tea.
McDonnell’s videos have notched up 170 million views.
He opened his channel four years ago, using a webcam and laptop.
He now earns royalties from advertisers like L’Oreal. He has also been flown to California by animation movie studio Pixar to make videos about its latest releases.
“I try to make my videos more personal, like I’m speaking to one person rather than a big audience. It’s hard to wrap my head around the fact a million people are watching the stuff I make,” he said.
