May 23rd, 2010 - 4:12 pm ICT by ANILondon, May 23 (ANI): A British lawnmower has vroomed past the world land speed record with a top speed of more than 86mph.
Rider Don Wales entered the record books on his petrol driven mower as he bettered the previous 80.792mph lawnmower land speed record with an impressive 86.069mph at Pendine Sands, in west Wales.
“We are all very excited. It looked like time was running out today but we have now set a new land speed record of 86.069mph,” the Telegraph quoted Clare Hansley-Boyd, a spokeswoman for the British team, as saying.
She added: “It really looked like time was running short and we wouldn’t make it today and then it all came good.”
The team is now aiming to shatter the 100mph barrier. (ANI)
