British hostage committed suicide: Iraq kidnappersJuly 20th, 2008 - 3:03 pm ICT by IANS
London, July 20 (DPA) One of the five Britons taken hostage in Iraq more than a year ago has committed suicide, British media said Sunday, citing a video made available by the kidnappers. According to the Sunday Times, the video claims that the man killed himself May 24, 2007, and shows another hostage in the video calling on British authorities to do more to free them.
The British Foreign Ministry however said there was no independent confirmation of the hostage’s death. Prime Minister Gordon Brown said efforts to free the five men were moving at high speed.
The five men, an information technology specialist and four body guards, were kidnapped from the Iraqi finance ministry at the end of May 2007 allegedly by Shia militiamen.
