British couple shot dead on honeymoon
November 2nd, 2011 - 8:27 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Nov 2 (IANS) A British couple on their honeymoon in Antigua “were made to kneel before being shot dead”, an inquest has heard.
Catherine Mullany, 31, and her 31-year-old husband Ben were forced to kneel by their bed before being shot in the head in 2008, the Daily Mail reported.
Catherine died at the scene while her husband died after being flown home to Pontardawe in South Wales.
An official said cash, a camera and phones were stolen from the newlyweds’ room before they were killed on the last day of their two-week honeymoon.
“Both were forced to kneel near the side of the bed and were shot in the back of the head. Three spent cartridges were found on the floor and there was damage to the bathroom door where it had been kicked in,” the official said.
Avie Howell, 20, and Kaniel Martin, 23, were found guilty of murder in July and are due to be sentenced next week.
The Mullanys’ stay at the five-star resort had been a wedding present from friends and family.
Martin and Howell, who had been enjoying Antigua’s carnival celebrations hours before, reportedly targeted their cabin at random.
They were caught after SIM cards registered in their names were activated in Ben Mullany’s stolen phone within hours of the killings.
