Britain to have ‘FBI-style’ agency
June 9th, 2011 - 4:18 pm ICT by IANSLondon, June 9 (IANS) Britain would soon have a crime tackling agency on the lines of America’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), a top official has said.
Home Secretary Theresa May said the National Crime Agency (NCA) would have powers over British police to tackle organised crime, border control, cyber crime and online paedophiles, the Daily Express reported.
The only major threat the agency would not control was counter-terrorism.
“For the first time, there will be one agency with the power, remit and responsibility for ensuring that right action is taken at the right time by the right people,” May told parliament.
The NCA would replace the Serious and Organised Crime Agency and the Child Exploitation Online Protection Centre. It would be launched by the end of 2013.
