London, Jan.25 (ANI): The thought of never seeing her children again is causing their British mom, Marnie Pearce, to weep in despair. Pearce, a teaching assistant, told the Sunday Telegraph from Dubai that an Emirates Appeal Court has rejected her appeal against her conviction for adultery, a charge she vehemently denies.
“I don”t have any answers. I am going to prison (for three months) and that’’s all I know. I am stuck here on my own. My children are devastated. I just want my life back. I don”t deserve this no-one deserves to have this done to them.”
She alleges that her former husband, an Egyptian, made false claims against her after their marriage broke down more than a year ago.
“My husband wants me in prison so that he can leave the country with the children. If I go to prison this week, I swear he will take my children out of the country immediately. He has Egyptian passports [for their children]. My children will be out of here within hours of me being taken to jail. And then I will never see them again. They are my world,” she says, before breaking down uncontrollably, Pearce said.
Pearce’’s ordeal began in March last year when she was arrested at her home in Dubai. Police, accompanied by her former husband, burst into her villa while she says she was having tea with a fellow Briton, who she insists was simply fixing her computer.
Pearce was accused of adultery an offence under Dubai law four months after their marriage had broken down.
In November, she was convicted of adultery and sentenced to six months in jail. Last week the emirate’’s Appeal Court upheld her conviction but reduced her sentence to three months.
The court also fined her 3,000 dirhams (600 pounds) and ordered her to be deported after she completes her sentence.
Pearce, who was 40 earlier this month, has lived in the Middle East since she was in her mid 20s. It is where she met Ihab El-Labban. The couple married in the Seychelles in 1999. They have two sons, Laith, seven, and Ziad, four, who have been raised in Dubai.
She is alleged to have had an affair with a fellow Briton, Brian Clark, a friend of her brother-in-law, who she says is just an acquaintance.
She says she does not know his whereabouts and says she has not seen him since March last year. “He has gone away and I don”t blame him for a minute,” she said, claiming that he too could be jailed on what she says is invented evidence. (ANI)
