Brit peer Baroness Warsi pelted with eggs for not being a practicing Muslim
December 1st, 2009 - 1:13 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )London, Dec. 1 (ANI): A group of Muslim men hurled eggs at Tory peer Baroness Warsi, for not being Muslim enough in her actions and statements.
Warsi, who is the Shadow Minister for Community Cohesion and Social Action, was mobbed during a visit to Luton. A group started screaming abuse at her accusing her of supporting the death of Muslims in Afghanistan.
“They were saying something about her not being a proper Muslim. But rather than run off, she stood her ground and said ‘Let’s have a proper debate, let’s have an argument.’ They just carried on screaming and shouting,” The Times quoted Warsi’s spokesman, as saying.
One egg hit her and soiled her jacket. She was taken to a nearby shop and the visit continued with police protection.
“These men are a bunch of idiots who do not represent the wider Muslim community. I stood up to them and challenged them to a proper debate, but they weren’t prepared to listen,” Warsi later said.
A protestor was quoted as saying that he was “against everything she (Warsi) stands for”.
“She is not a practising Muslim. Clearly by looking at her, she does not represent Muslims,” he said.
Earlier this year, a handful of Muslim protesters booed British soldiers returning home to Luton saying “Anglian Soldiers: Butchers of Basra” and “Anglian Soldiers: Cowards, Killers, Extremists”. (ANI)
