Brit Muslims will always be seen as susceptible to extremism

London, Dec.17 (ANI): As long as British Muslims remain entangled in the politics of their forefathers, they will be susceptible to extremism, says a Times report.
The paper is of the view that the direct terrorist threat to Britain comes above all from members of the Muslim minority in Britain, as they are mainly of Pakistani origin, and retain close links to their relatives in Pakistan.
Islamist extremism, it says has become a special problem in Pakistan for two reasons –. The first has been a particular regional tradition of radical Islam, which in South Asia as a whole can be traced back to the Deobandi religious tradition, and the second is the radicalising and destabilising effects of two regional conflicts: Kashmir and Afghanistan.
From the late 1980s until the aftermath of 9/11, Pakistan supported the Muslim majority in Kashmir in their struggle against rule from India by backing violent Islamist groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). (ANI)
