Brit Men who pay for sex could soon be slapped with a fineDecember 21st, 2007 - 4:19 pm ICT by admin
London, Dec 21 (ANI): Brit men who pay for sex could soon face a fine, according to a proposed new law that makes it illegal to pay for sex.
Tracy, a former prostitute has supported the newly planned law.
Prostitution is a form of abuse. It draws the most vulnerable women in society and allows them to be abused for money, The Sun quoted Tracy, as saying.
The only people that benefit are pimps who take advantage of desperate women.
Making prostitution illegal will not stop it, but it will be an example that this country is not complacent about a dangerous industry.
The police will never be able to stop rape, murder and child abuse from happening, but does that mean they should make it legal?
There needs to be serious punishments put in place for breaking the law and visiting a prostitute.
These crimes are going unnoticed, she added.
However, Womens Institute member Jean Johnson is campaigning with the WIs Holybourne Federation, Hampshire, to legalise prostitution.
No matter how much we try to stop it, prostitution will always happen, she said.
Making the sex industry illegal will take it underground. There will always be vulnerable women who need money and men willing to pay them. If this is taken out of the public eye it allows women to be abused and taken advantage of.
In the Netherlands, brothels are licensed and sex workers given health checks to protect them and their clients from sexually transmitted diseases.
Their clients are known to the brothel bosses. Its a safer way to work and means they dont have to go out on the streets, she added. (ANI)
