Brit-Indian honeymooner assured of ‘five-star’ treatment in South Africa
May 5th, 2011 - 2:15 pm ICT by ANILondon, May 5(ANI): Shrien Dewani, the Brit-Indian millionaire who has been charged with masterminding his wife’s murder during their honeymoon in Cape Town last year, will stay in a private cell in a luxury prison in South Africa, and be protected from gang violence and sex attacks, a court has heard.
Testifying for the South African government, Inspecting Judge of the Judicial Inspectorate of Correctional Services, Deon Hurter van Zyl, said the “new generation” jails, with extensive sports facilities, are so plush criminals see a sentence as a spell at a holiday camp, The Sun reports.
“The impression created is they are not really prisons, they are five-star hotels,” Zyl told magistrates at the hearing in London.
