Brit-Indian carjack husband fears being implicated in wife’s murder: Source
November 25th, 2010 - 2:16 pm ICT by ANILondon, Nov 25(ANI): Brit-Indian businessman Shrien Dewani, whose 28-year-old wife was killed during their honeymoon trip in South Africa, reportedly fears that detectives struggling to find the killers may try to implicate him in the crime.
A family source close to Dewani said that local police were under pressure to pin the killing of wife Anni on someone other than a South African.
“The fear is police are looking for a hook to hang this on to protect tourism … If they can muddy the waters with allegations it was something more than a robbery, that works for them. The authorities are concerned about the country’s reputation,” the Daily Mail quoted the source, as saying.
Shrien and Anni Dewani were two weeks into their Cape Town honeymoon when the taxi they were in was hijacked in Khayelitsha township by two men armed with guns on November 13.
They ordered the driver of the taxi to get out and then took off with the car and the couple.
Shrien was later released, but the gunmen took off with Anni, who was later found inside the car shot dead. (ANI)
