Brit Home Office in new row after official link directs to Japanese porn
April 7th, 2009 - 3:20 pm ICT by ANILondon, April 7 (ANI): British Home Office has landed itself in a fresh trouble after a link on its official website took users to a Japanese pornographic site.
A public user was left facing explicit images while hunting for information on the Office for Security and Counter-Terrorism website.
A spokesman for the Home Office confirmed the revelation, saying the link had been removed.
“There was a link on the page that said Technical Advisory Board website. But when you clicked on the link it took you to the porn,” the Telegraph quoted him as saying.
“We were notified this morning and removed the link immediately.”
“As soon as this was brought to our attention, this page was removed. We are investigating how this happened and apologise for any offence caused,” he added.
The incident comes just days after British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith apologised following the humiliating admission that she claimed taxpayer-funded allowances for the cost of two porn films watched by her husband.
Meanwhile, Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman Paul Holmes added: “If the Home Office cannot be relied upon to keep porn off their own website, it’s pretty obvious they can’t be trusted with the intrusive identity database or the details of all our phone and email records.
“But there is at least some consolation in the fact that this porn scandal at the Home Office does not seem to have cost the taxpayer any money.” (ANI)
