Brit great-grandmother celebrated her 99 birthdays on wrong day!December 24th, 2008 - 7:01 pm ICT by ANI
London, Dec 24 (ANI): A 99-year-old Brit great-grandmother postponed her 100th birthday party after she learnt that she had been celebrating her birthday on the wrong day throughout her life.
Elsie Asletts relatives applied for her to receive a congratulatory telegram from the Queen on December 14, the date she had always marked as her birthday.
However, when pensions staff sent out to check the request uncovered her original birth certificate, it was found that her date of birth was actually recorded as December 18, 1908four days later than she had been told.
The great-grandmother to 14 and grandmother to four revealed that the news, though a bit shocking, had made her birthday even more enjoyable.
“It was all a bit of a surprise. You never doubt your date of birth. But it meant I could milk my celebrations for longer and draw them out for four days,” the Telegraph quoted her as saying.
Asletts mother was known to be rather fond of her drink, which is why it is being assumed that she might have confused the date of births of her eight children.
The 99year-olds husband died 19 years ago, when he was 79. She has since been staying with her son Jay, 70, and his wife Brenda, 69.
“It was a complete surprise to her. Everyone always told her she was born on the fourteenth,” Brenda said.
“Her mum was rather fond of her drink so we can only imagine she was a bit merry when she went to register the birthday and got confused, Brenda added. (ANI)
