Brit drinkers down 3000-extra calories a week from booze!May 27th, 2008 - 4:09 pm ICT by admin
London, May 27 (ANI): They may not realize it while boozing, but an average British drinker downs a belly-busting 3,000 extra calories every week just from his or her favourite tipple.
The figure is 500 calories more than the average man requires for an entire day and 1,000 more than suggested for women.
At this rate, men would clock up just under 200,000 calories a year in alcohol, which could pile on as much as 56lb over a year.
On average, women drink an extra 110,000 calories, which could add 31lb a year.
Now, town hall chiefs are calling for calorie counts to be shown on drink labels and restaurant wine lists to help tackle the growing obesity crisis.
There has been widespread publicity about how drink damages your health but most people are completely unaware of the effect it can have on their waistline, The Sun quoted David Rogers, Local Government Association health spokesman, as saying. (ANI)
