Brit bakery creates world’s biggest cream scone
July 20th, 2010 - 2:50 pm ICT by ANILondon, July 20 (ANI): A bakery in Britain has smashed the record for the world’s biggest cream scone.
It took 24 hours to create the 6ft wide 18ins thick scone, which consists of 14kg of flour, five pounds of sugar and 20 pints of pure buttermilk, and it was then topped off with 18kg of clotted cream and 14kg of jam.
The scone, which is three times the size of the previous record holder, was baked in an industrial oven at temperatures of more than 230C in a mould specially constructed by welders.
The giant cream treat, created by Hallett’s the Bakers of Paignton, Devon, was accompanied by a giant cup of tea.
“The secret is all in the mix. It was a 24-hour team effort. The biggest challenge is cooling the scone down,” the Sun quoted a spokesman as saying.
“A normal scone can take 20 minutes to cool down so imagine how long it took this.
“What we didn’t want is for the scone to be too hot and the cream to be too runny,” he added.
The bakers eclipsed their own world record for a cream tea, which featured a scone 2ft across (60cm). (ANI)
