Brisbane student to go global for Best Job in the World
March 11th, 2009 - 5:59 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Mar 11 (ANI): A 20-year-old Brisbane student will visit as many countries as she can in next twelve days, in a stunt she hopes will win her the best job in the world.
Hailey Turner, the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) business student, made a short-list of 50 people out of 34,684 applications worldwide for the dream job.
Turner will go to as places as she can to boost her application for a six-month job on the Great Barrier Reef’’s Hamilton Island.
“We”ve got Tokyo, Helsinki, Copenhagen, London, New York, Washington and LA,” News.com.au quoted Turner, as saying.
“The goal is to meet as many people in as many places as I can by the time the public voting closes.
“I want to travel to some of the largest demographics for international visitors to the reef and get out and meet as many locals as I can and encourage them to come and visit the reef.
“The trip will be a mix of public activities to get the world’’s attention, and visiting some of the world’’s famous places to get tips on how to market the islands of the Great Barrier Reef,” she added.
Turner has launched a website she”ll be using to chronicle her trip www.seeyouatthereef.com.
Turner has said that she wants to prove an Aussie can win the job.
“I”ve heard a lot of talk they”re not going to give it to an Aussie, and I just want to prove an Aussie can do the job better than an international applicant,” she said.
“One of the things the judges are going to be looking at will be the creativity and initiative of the applicants, as well as their ability to do this job.
“If I can convince people that their next holiday should be in Queensland, and do it in a creative and unusual way, I hope that will get everyone’’s attention,” she added. (ANI)
