London, July 20 (IANS) A three-year-old boy in Colombia managed to survive despite remaining stuck in a sewer for 24 hours by holding on to a pipe, a media report said.

Jeanpier Silvera Arteta, from the industrial port city of Barranquilla in Colombia, was found clutching a pipe for dear life as torrents of water threatened to sweep him down a flue, Daily Mail reported.

Arteta’s family had reported him missing a day earlier since he disappeared while playing with his two brothers.

The three boys were playing in a sand-filled construction site, where officials suspect Arteta fell into a drainage hole. But his siblings failed to notice it.

He could not be located despite the rescue teams immediately scouring the area around the Sourdis neighbourhood, including the sewers.

He was finally found nearly submerged in a raging water flow during a second ‘intense’ sweep of the sewer system.

He was rushed to hospital, where he is reported to be recovering well.
