Beijing, Aug 8 (IANS) Medal-hopeful Indian boxers will start their Olympics campaign Saturday with Vijender Kumar taking on Jack Badaou of Gambia in the 75-kg section first round bout at the Workers’ Gymnasium here. Going by Vijender’s form in the run-up to the Olympics, Badaou should not be a problem for him. Vijender beat Athens Olympics’ welterweight gold medalist Bakhtiyar Artayev of Kazakhstan in the President’s Cup in Chinese Taipei last month.

The other Indian boxer who will open his account Saturday is Dinesh Kumar. He will clash with Algerian Abdelhafid Benchabla in the 81-kg category.

The first Indian boxer to qualify for the Olympics A. L. Lakra though has to contend with a tough draw as he faces Athens bronze medallist Bahodirjon Sultonov of Uzbekistan in the first round of the 57-kg category Monday.

Akhil Kumar (54 kg) will take on Ali Hallab of France while Jitender (51 kg) meets Furkan Ulas Memis of Turkey Tuesday.

The first day of the boxing tournament will see 24 bouts in the Round of 32, with 12 bouts respectively in both the middleweight and light-heavyweight divisions.
