Blow-up sheep, false leg enlisted among items mislaid by guests in hotel rooms
August 24th, 2009 - 4:29 pm ICT by ANILondon, August 24 (ANI): A study conducted by Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels has found a blow-up sheep and a false leg to be among thousands of items left in hotel rooms. The survey further revealed that a printer, crutches, and dentures were also mislaid by absent-minded guests.
The surveyors say that 2,000 pounds in cash, a Gucci watch, and a monk fancy dress outfit were also among the recovered items.
According to hotel managers, around 2.5 million-pound million worth of items are left behind each year.
They say that phone chargers and underwear are the most-recovered things.
They have revealed that, each year, hotel staff find about 42,000 phone chargers worth around 630,000 pounds; 40,000 items of underwear worth around 200,000 pounds; 14,000 toothbrushes worth around 21,000 pounds; 11,500 pairs of glasses worth around 1.15 million pounds; and 5,000 hair straighteners worth around 500,000 pounds.
“It’s quite unbelievable just how much is left behind by our guests each year. The phone chargers would easily stretch across the English Channel,” the Telegraph quoted Jane Bednall, from Holiday Inn, as saying.
“Most items are not re-claimed and after six months we donate anything of value to local charities,” Bednall added. (ANI)
