Blasts in Kabul
August 19th, 2011 - 10:29 am ICT by IANSKabul, Aug 19 (IANS) Bombs exploded Friday morning near the house of Afghan First Vice President Mohammad Qasim Fahim here but there was no immediate report of damage or casualties, Xinhua reported.
The first explosion occurred around 5.30 a.m. followed by another one 20 minutes later. Gunshots were also heard.
Fahim’s house is close to the UNAMA office (United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan), the Indian consulate and the Kabul Intercontinental Hotel, which was the target of a terror attack on June 28 in which 21 people were killed.
A police officer said the blasts targeted the UNAMA office.
Meanwhile, security forces have cordoned off the area.
