Blast, gunshots rock Afghanistan’s Kandahar
October 9th, 2011 - 3:36 am ICT by IANSKandahar (Afghanistan), Oct 9 (IANS) A blast rocked Kandahar city, the capital of Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, Saturday night followed by gun shots, officials said.
“It was rocket attack into the Kandahar city at around 09:40 p.m. local time and followed by some gun shots. Casualties are feared,” the official told Xinhua but declined to be identified; saying authorized officials would brief the media.
Meantime, Shir Shah Yusufzai, the deputy police chief of Kandahar province, confirmed the blast to Xinhua and added details would be made public after investigation. He also stated that shooting is over and the situation is normal at the moment.
Kandahar, 450 km south of Kabul, has been the scene of increasing militancy over the past five years.
