Black South Africans forced to drink urineFebruary 28th, 2008 - 2:33 pm ICT by admin
London, Feb.28 (ANI): South Africans have reacted with outrage to a video showing black university workers being fed urine-laced meat stew by white students.
The film, made at the formerly white-only Reitz men’s hostel, opens with the words: “Once upon a time the Boers lived peacefully here on Reitz Island until one day when the less-advantaged discovered the word ‘integration’ in the dictionary.”
It shows five black staff, four women and a man, drinking beer, racing each other, and taking part in rugby practice with white students, before the urine scene occurs.
Kneeling on the ground, the staff are made to eat the laced concoction from plastic cups. Most of them vomit.
“That, at the end of the day, is what we think of integration,” the final shot says.
The Telegraph quoted the African National Congress Youth League as saying that : “This barbaric act does not only denigrate and dehumanize those workers, but is a tip of the iceberg of what workers experience daily at the hands of racists who cant differentiate between a dog, a baboon and a human being.”
The right-wing Freedom Front Plus party condemned the film, describing the events shown as “atrocities”.
University authorities said two of the students shown had already completed their degrees, while the other two had been barred from campus.
Criminal charges would be sought against all four, they added. (ANI)
