BJP welcomes fatwa against terrorismJune 1st, 2008 - 8:03 pm ICT by admin
New Delhi, June 1 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sunday welcomed the Islamic seminary Dar-ul-Uloom’s fatwa (edict) terming participation in terror activities as un-Islamic. “I welcome the recent fatwa issued by one of the most prestigious religious centres of the Muslim community Dar-ul-Uloom Deoband, which stated that the killing of innocent citizens by terrorists is an un-Islamic act,” party president Rajnath Singh said in his presidential address at the BJP national executive here.
“Deoband is seeking to disassociate Muslims from terrorism but the central government wants to equate Muslims with terrorism and on this very basis is rejecting an anti-terrorism law,” he added.
BJP has criticised the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) of being soft on terror to appease the minority community. The Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA), passed by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, was repealed by the UPA after it came to power in 2004.
The Jamiat Ulema-I-Hind, one of the leading Islamic organisations, passed a fatwa against terrorism at an anti-terrorism global peace conference at the Ramlila grounds here Saturday.
The fatwa has the sanction of Dar-ul-Uloom.
“In the eyes of Islam, on any part over the surface of the earth spreading mischief, rioting, breach of peace, bloodshed, killing of innocent persons and plundering are the most inhuman crimes,” the fatwa stated.
