Washington, Mar 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) According to reports, the FBI agents are very much a part of the online social networking world, and have a lot of fake profiles on Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn and the popular microblogging site Twitter too. They have a good presence on the social networking sites and are using it fully, to gather information about the suspects, and also to communicate with the unsuspecting suspects too.
An internal Justice Department document offered these astonishing details about the way the FBI is upgrading itself, and becoming more technologically savvy in an effort to fight crime, and uncover suspects and get other leads. Another advantage of being present on the social network is that the investigative agents can crosscheck the alibis of the suspects from their online information, such as status messages in Facebook, and tweets from the popular microblogging site Twitter. Plus they are also able to identify the relatives of the suspects, who can also be interrogated in the future regarding the suspects whereabouts.
“You could really mess up someone’s investigation because you’re investigating the same person and maybe doing things that are counterproductive to what another agency is doing,” said Detective Frank Dannahey of the Rocky Hill, Police Department, who is a veteran of numerous undercover criminal investigations.
