‘Better times’ ahead for Obama if he takes his case to American public: Jimmy Carter

Washington, Dec 1(ANI): Former United States President Jimmy Carter thinks that “the next two years might be better” for President Barack Obama if he drops his efforts at bipartisanship.
“In the next two years, President Obama will be much more independent in fighting hard to prevail and not trying to reach out,” Politico quoted Carter, as having said in an interview with CBS News.
“I think he’ll be a much more tough proponent of what he stands for in the future, giving up on Republicans’ support and taking his case to the American public,” he added.
Carter also believes that Obama will be an improved leader without Democrats leading both chambers of Congress.
“Republicans so far have been totally irresponsible,” Carter said.
“Now that they’ve taken control of the House of Representatives, they’ll be responsible for a major element of the U.S. government,” he added.
Carter would not say whether Obama has asked for his help in building a strategy for the next two years.
“He doesn’t need my advice, but that’s what I think,” Carter said.
Earlier, on Tuesday, Carter visited the White House to meet Obama’s top foreign policy adviser.
It was Carter’s first visit to the White House since just before Obama was inaugurated in January 2009. (ANI)
