Bed warmers, pigeon chasers are some of world’s strangest hotel jobs
January 28th, 2011 - 4:00 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Jan 28 (ANI): A look at the quirky jobs offered by leading hotels worldwide has revealed that now they also employ people to work as bed warmers, pigeon chasers, and even bedtime storytellers.
The list, compiled by Hotels.com, revealed the Holiday Inn Kensington Forum in London tops the weird list with their exclusive service of a Human Bed Warmer, News.com.au reported.
On request, a member of staff dons a special head-to-toe suit and hops into guests’ beds for five minutes before they retire for the night, moving around under the sheets to create a nice and cosy sleeping environment.
The Hotel Andaz in London offers bedtime story service, and guests, no matter what age, can call for a Bedtime Storyteller to come to their room and read them the book of their choice.
The Barnsley Gardens Resort in Georgia, US, has its own in-house Fairy Godmother, who spends her time making guests’ romantic wishes come true.
And the Rambagh Palace in India employs two people as Pigeon Chasers. Their job is to stand in the courtyard and scare birds away by waving a large flag for nine hours, every day.
Similarly, Santa Barbara’s Biltmore Four Seasons employs a Hotel Falconer, who wanders the pool’s perimeter with a falcon on arm to shoo away seagulls.
And Amanbagh Resort in India employs Monkey Men, who patrol the grounds armed with slingshots to keep the monkeys from stealing food. (ANI)
