BBC does not value experienced female presenters, says comedienne
October 27th, 2009 - 9:24 pm ICT by ANILondon, Oct.27 (ANI): The BBC does not value experienced female presenters, according to comedienne Sandi Toksvig, who criticised television executives for pairing older men with younger women.
The Telegraph quoted the 51-year-old broadcaster who chairs The News Quiz on Radio 4, as saying that talented female presenters in their middle years are not as valued as their male counterparts.
“There isn’t a single woman broadcasting a major show on Radio 2 apart from Sarah Kennedy and she’s on at six o’clock in the morning. That’s the most listened to radio station in the country and there’s hardly any women broadcasting on it,” she said. “Are things as good as they could be? I don’t think so,” she said in Surrey Life magazine.
BBC presenter JoAnne Good echoed her comments, saying women continued to experience secondary status to men in radio.
Toksvig, the Danish born presenter, claimed women can only get ahead if they are young and pretty. (ANI)
