Paris, June 26 (DPA) Bayern Munich are ready to double Franck Ribery’s salary to eight million euros (11.2 million dollars) in an effort to make the French winger stay in the wake of interest from several teams led by Real Madrid.
French sports daily L’Equipe reported Friday that Munich were set to make Ribery the best-played man in Bundesliga history. His current annual pay is estimated at four million euros.
L’Equipe also quoted Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge as reiterating that Ribery, who came to Munich in 2007 on a contract until 2011, is not for sale.
“Franck can not be replaced. Real Madrid know our position: he is not for sale,” Rummenigge told L’Equipe.
But Real appear to be playing for time with the transfer window open until August 31. Ribery is also reportedly sought by Spanish rivals Barcelona and English clubs Chelsea and Manchester United.
