Sheikh Hasina London, Mar 7 (ANI): Bangladesh’s High Court is set to resume its hearing to ascertain whether Nobel peace laureate and micro credit pioneer Muhammad Yunus was sacked illegally or not.

His supporters believe that sacking of the 70-year old is politically motivated by the Bangladesh government as they want to bring Grameen under its control

Yunus’ lawyers laid out their case on Sunday before the court was adjourned.

Last week, the central bank fired Yunus from Grameen Bank, saying that he violated the country’s retirement laws, The BBC reports.

The Grameen Bank, created in 1983 by Yunus gives small sum of money to millions of poor and marginalised people to run their own businesses.

Analysts say Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fell out with Prof Yunus in 2007 when he tried to set up his own political party, The BBC reports.

In December 2010, she had accused Yunus of treating Grameen Bank as his “personal property” and claimed the group was “sucking blood from the poor”. (ANI)
