Sydney, July 11 (IANS) Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, whose cricketing career has been marred by a spate of injuries, says he is willing to play for his country anywhere even in Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. “I’d go anywhere, I’d play anywhere,” Watson was quoted as saying in The Australian after arriving back from Australia’s tour of the West Indies.

“I just want to play for my country, that’s what I’ve worked so hard for. I’ve been through some up and down times over the last year, so I’d do anything to play for my country, so wherever I have to go I’ll go.”

Watson’s career appeared to have gone completely off-track after breaking down before the 2006-07 Ashes series and then again at the World Cup.

But the 27-year-old all-rounder’s sagging career got a major fillip after his successful stint for Rajasthan Royals in Indian Premier League (IPL) and his effort was rewarded with a call-up to the one-day squad for the recent West Indies series.

“We played a lot of cricket in six weeks in IPL, so physically it gave me a lot of confidence to know that I could get through a pretty tiring schedule. I think it brought my whole game, every aspect, batting and bowling, to another level. It was a great time and my cricket improved a lot and that was my aim at the start of the tournament,” he said.

Watson who carried his stupendous form to West Indies says he is thrilled to be the part of the Australian team once again.

“It’s just been so great to be part of the Australian team again. It’s been an interesting last year and to be able to be here now, to be part of a winning team and to play a big role in it is something, I wasn’t expecting at all. I was expecting to be in England playing county cricket,” he added

Michael Clarke admitted Thursday that batsmen and bowlers would be under threat from the all-rounder, including himself if he had a bad patch with the bat. Clarke only made his way back into the Test side during the 2006-07 Ashes because Watson was injured.
