Kabul, Apr.1 (ANI): The Coalition Forces Headquarter in Afghanistan has stated that The Australian Special Operations Task Group (SOTG) and the Afghan police have captured two Taliban leaders in Oruzgan province.
The Australian Defence Department did not provide details about the capture, as the operation in question is still going on.
Both captured Taliban leaders are said to be responsible for a number of roadside bomb attacks.
Major-General Angus Campbell, the Australian commander in the Middle East said that one of the leaders was captured in the Mirabad Valley on Sunday has ‘direct links to the highest levels in the insurgency in the province.’
Campbell said: ” He was a subordinate of one of the senior commanders in Uruzgan and was responsible for multiple attacks on Afghan National Police checkpoints, and facilitating improvised explosive devices throughout the region.”
The other insurgent leader who was detained in Deh Rafshan is the son of a senior Taliban commander and a producer of home made explosives. A joint operation by the forces on Monday in the Deh Rafshan region also killed two other insurgents, the headquarters announced. (ANI)
