Auckland jury retires from Indian-origin liquor store owner’s trial
March 1st, 2010 - 1:45 pm ICT by ANIAuckland, Mar. 1 (ANI): A New Zealand jury has retired to decide whether seven people are guilty of various charges in connection with the June 2008 fatal shooting of Indian-origin south Auckland liquor store owner Navtej Singh.
The jury retired about 2.35 p.m. after Justice Graham Lang concluded his summary of the case for and against the seven people who have been on trial for the past month at the High Court at Auckland, the New Zealand Herald reports.
Singh was shot dead during an armed robbery in his Riverton liquor store in Manurewa East.
Six people have been accused of Singh’s murder - Anitilea Chan Kee, Myron Felise, Tino Felise, Eti Filoa, Walter McCarthy and Jason Naseri. A seventh, Mefiposeta Chan-Kee, is charged with being an accessory after the killing.
Tino Felise, Filoa and McCarthy also face charges of aggravated robbery. Anitilea Chan-Kee, Myron Felise and Naseri have previously admitted charges of aggravated robbery.
Anitlea Chan-Kee has admitted shooting Singh but claims that he didn’t know that the gun was loaded when he accidentally pulled the trigger. (ANI)
