Valdosta (US), May 2 (IANS) Arjun Atwal was way back in 79th place as a mid-round blip saw him drop three shots in two holes and end up with a first round of two-over 74 at the $625,000 South Georgia Classic. Atwal is seven shots behind the leader Garth Mulroy, who shot a 5-under 67 to take a one-shot lead Thursday. Atwal started on the 10th and birdied the 11th. He parred the next few holes before double bogeying the 17th and bogeying the 18th. He never recovered as he parred all nine holes on the second stretch, the front half of the course to finish with a 74.
Atwal is currently 18th on the Nationwide Money List and needs to stay in top 25 to qualify for the main PGA Tour next year.
