Atwal slips to tied 41st in Nationwide eventAugust 17th, 2008 - 5:26 pm ICT by IANS
Rochester (New York), Aug 17 (IANS) Arjun Atwal dropped a bogey and a double bogey on the back nine as he carded a three-over 73 and slipped down the leaderboard at the end of the third round of the Nationwide’s Xerox Classic on Saturday. The Indian, fighting to get into the top-25 of the Money list to earn a berth into the PGA Tour, is now tied 41st with a total of even par 210.
At the top, Brendon de Jonge shot a 3-under-par 67 and increased his lead with one more round to go. De Jonge’s 54-hole total of 12-under 198 is three shots better than rookie Jonathan Fricke (63) and England’s Greg Owen (67). Top money winner Jarrod Lyle (66) is in fourth place.
Atwal had just one birdie on the third and he bogeyed the sixth, double bogeyed the 11th and again dropped a shot on the 13th at the Irondequoit Country Club course, which is the shortest on Tour at just 6,720 yards.
De Jonge is No. 12 on the money list and already in solid shape for a return trip to the PGA TOUR in 2009, but a win would lock things up and push him to either No. 1 or No. 2 on the list depending on how the Australian Lyle fares on Sunday.
