ATS threatened to kill me: Purohit

Pune, Nov 19 (IANS) A court here sent Malegaon blast accused Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit to the Anti-Terrorism Squad custody for two days for a case of forgery even as he accused the ATS of threatening to kill him in custody.Purohit, whose 14-day police custody granted by a Nashik court ended Tuesday, was brought here by the Pune ATS for questioning about getting his friend Milind Datye a revolver license from the army quota on the basis of forged documents.

He told the court that he feared for his life as the ATS threatened to kill him in custody.

The Pune ATS told the court it received a complaint about this from Datye himself when he got suspicious about the license after Purohit’s arrest in the Malegaon blast case.

Purohit’s lawyer Avinash Bhide produced before the court a set of commendations received by the army officer during his tenure and also a document showing he was invited by the ATS to give a lecture on terror combat techniques.

Purohit is the first serving army officer to be accused of involvement in a terrorist attack. Six people were killed in the Sep 29 bomb blast in the Maharashtra town of Malegaon.
