At least five killed, 15 injured in Iraq attacks
October 7th, 2009 - 10:14 pm ICT by IANSBaghdad, Oct 7 (DPA) At least five people were killed and 15 others injured Wednesday in violence around Iraq, police told DPA.
In the northern city of Mosul, two policemen were killed by a bomb as they patrolled the neighbourhood of al-Zahra. Three others were wounded in that attack.
In the district of al-Mosul al-Jadida, a second bomb killed a policeman and wounded three of his colleagues, while soon after in the al-Wahda neighbourhood, militants fatally shot an unarmed man.
Mosul and its environs, among Iraq’s most ethnically and religiously diverse areas, remain plagued by near-daily deadly attacks.
In the western Baghdad suburb of Abu Ghraib, two civilians were dead and nine injured, including a policeman when a bomb targeted a police patrol in the market area, police there told DPA.
Even as security in the capital has improved, insurgents in Abu Ghraib, some 20 km west of Baghdad, continue to target Iraqi security forces and civilians in the area, often with deadly effect.
