Assange receives over $1mn in advance for memoir
December 29th, 2010 - 1:12 pm ICT by ANIWashington, Dec 29 (ANI): Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, has revealed that he has received an advance of over one million dollars for his memoir.
The publishers, on the other hand, have not divulged any information.
In an interview with The Times, Assange said he would receive 325,000 pounds (502,000 dollars) from U.K. publisher Canongate Books Ltd. and 800,000 dollars from U.S. publishing house Alfred A. Knopf, itself a unit of Random House, for writing an autobiography, reports the Politico.
Assange expects to earn at least 1.1 million pounds after the book was serialized and sold to other international publishers.
Assange told the U.K. Sunday Times that he sold the memoir to pay legal fees and to prevent WikiLeaks from going under.
“I don’t want to write this book, but I have to,” he said. (ANI)
