Assange blames Oz govt. of providing information about WikiLeaks staff to US

London, Feb 13 (ANI): Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has alleged that the Australian government is providing the US with information about its citizens involved with the whistleblower website.

Assange also alleged that Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Attorney-General Robert McClelland are merely “pretending” to be not interfering with the whole issue because Australians are strongly supporting Wikileaks, reports.

He also insisted that people should be made aware about the Australian government’s cooperation with overseas authorities in this matter.

“There is assistance to the US - and that needs to come out,” he said.

Assange also reiterated that he still wants to return to Australia, and was focussed on fighting his extradition to Sweden where he is expected to face sex-related charges.

Earlier this month, Assange mother had launched a scathing attack on Gillard, calling her a “sycophant” of the United States. Christine Assange also said that Gillard’s views about her son’s activities are costing her support within her party and among voters who see the democratic value of his work.

Gillard had rejected intervening in the journalist’s legal process after Assange sought the Australian government’s help over the ongoing secret US diplomatic cables leak fiasco.

“There’s not anything we can, or indeed, should do about that. They are charges and they’ve got to be worked through proper process,” Gillard said. (ANI)
