Artist gets labour camp for sex in art gallery
May 10th, 2011 - 3:08 pm ICT by IANSShanghai, May 10 (IANS) A Chinese artist has been ordered to spend a year at a labour camp after he had sex at a Beijing art gallery, a media report said.
Fiftyseven-year-old Cheng Li displayed his work “Art Prostitution” by having sex with his female partner.
The incident took place during the art show called “Sensitive Zone” in the Beijing Modern Art Gallery. The show was open to invited professional artists only, Shanghai Daily reported Tuesday quoting Beijing News.
Police detained Cheng March 23.
Two days later, police told Cheng’s lawyer Wang Zhenyu that the artist had to spend one year in a labour camp as punishment for his pornographic art.
Cheng was “surprised” to know about the punishment as his wife also understood and supported her husband’s art, Wang was quoted as saying.
