Archbishop of York wants church to spread the word down the pub!
April 3rd, 2010 - 5:27 pm ICT by ANILondon, Apr 3 (ANI): The Archbishop of York has said that the Church of England should spread its message in pubs.
Dr John Sentamu, the former Bishop of Birmingham, has said that the clergy should hold debates and discussions in venues other than churches - for example in the bar of the local.
Sentamu gave the advice while discussing ways of communicating the Church’s message at Easter.
“I’ve actually gone and had endless debates when I was in Birmingham in pubs and they used to draw quite a lot of people. We’ve got to find a way of getting our message across,” the Daily Express quoted him as saying.
The Archbishop was discussing new ways of conveying the Christian message after a poll showed more than half of schoolchildren aged six to 10 did not know the religious origins of Easter.
He said it was “quite sad” that a quarter thought Easter was to celebrate the invention of chocolate while almost 30 per cent thought it was the Easter bunny’s birthday. (ANI)
