Jerusalem, Nov 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Archaeologists in Israel have discovered a 2,000-year-old Roman swimming pool in Old Jerusalem. The pool is said to have belonged to the Roman legion that invaded Jerusalem and destroyed the second Jewish Temple in 70 AD.

The discovery was made known on Monday and it gave a rare insight into the city during that period. The Jews were thrown out of Jerusalem during the period because they rebelled against the Roman authority that ruled the city then. The discovery reveals that the Roman city was quite bigger than it was initially thought of.

Jerusalem remains one of the moved excavated cities in the world. The city’s history makes it one of the rare cities that every plan to build on a land first have to attract archaeologists. Revelations do not in any way affect building in the town. That principle applies to the current find.

A new ritual bath has been planned for the location where the pool was found. However the construction will go ahead nonetheless but authorities say they will incorporate the design of the bath with the shape of the pool. It is believed that the pool was the place where some thousands of Roman soldiers are thought to have once bathed.
